Welcome back

Dear Class

Welcome back! Today we're going to do a few different things...

and complete the two grammar parts.

Then I'd like you to write a minimum of 150 words (and post it you your blog - along with a picture if you wish) about what you think the government should do about the current protests about the state of the education system in Chile. What measures do you think the government can take to resolve the 'strike' by school and university students who have taken over the buildings where they are studying. Make sure to use modal verbs.

Whilst there have been a series of protests here in Chile involving confrontations with the police and damage to property, over in England there has been a series of riots that have involved violence and looting. We're going to look at a few of the newspaper reports about the riots.

The first report comes from an Australian newspaper (The Sydney Morning Herald) and gives some details about the reason why the first riot(s) started. Read the report, watch the video and browse the pictures.

The second report comes from The Guardian newspaper in Britian and is about an interview with a young man, who predicted the riots were going to happen. Watch the interview with Chavez Campbell and read the article.

The last report is from the Daily Mail (another British newspaper) that gives details about some of the rioters, their crimes and the sentences handed to them by the courts. Please take down notes about the names, occupation, crimes and sentences that the people received.

Once you have read all the reports you are going to take part in group discussion, so feel free to note down any interestesting information.

Finally, today we're going to finish up with a song.
